Bill and Vicki Webb have owned and managed “Marbarrup”, a successful family farming business, for over 20 years. “First Steps” was started in 1998 as part of their farm succession plan to enable them to retain a mentoring role in the business and use their skills and experience to help individuals and groups in rural areas.
Vicki Webb is a qualified Regional Development Practitioner and for the past 10 years has worked with community groups on developing employment and enterprise projects.
Vicki recently qualified as a Career Development Practitioner and is assisting people in rural areas with Careers and Employment. |

12 Critical Success Factors
- 1 Have effective communication between stakeholders, listen to all aspirations
- 2 Have a written plan (who, what, when, where & how) using a process to refer to.
- 3 Have ownership of the outcomes, they are unique, as you are
- 4 Start early, don’t leave it till to late to do anything
- 5 Everyone must have commitment, passion and genuine desire to go the extra mile
- 6 Review the plan regularly, refer to it, keep everyone in the loop
- 7 Make it a fluid living document with understanding of the business
- 8 Involve next generation - what are their needs & identity, have good communication channels
- 9 Consider other issues such as improving relationships, retirement funding and different enterprise opportunities
- 10 Have feasible and achievable goals, include tax and stamp duty issues
- 11 Have a knowledge of the corporate structure, wills, equity, balance sheet & cashflow budgets
- 12 If you aim at nothing, you will achieve it with incredible accuracy!
